Cortes

Hernán Cortés is the overarching antagonist of The Road to El Dorado.

He is a Spanish explorer and conquistador based off the real life Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés. His exploration and conquer eventually led to the fall of the Aztec Empire.

Personality[]

Hernán Cortés is a really cold man who has no problem with punishing people, especially Miguel and Tulio after they accidentally stowed away on his ship, as evidenced when he promises they will be flogged and then be sold as slaves. He is a no-nonsense man as well, one who doesn't suffer fools lightly. This is shown when he has Tzekel-Kan seized for presumably leading him and his men to a dead end (when in reality, it was the newly blocked entrance to El Dorado). He is implied to be like his real-world counterpart; he values gold more than human life, he looks down upon the tribal peoples, he is bloodthirsty, and he talks about as well as perverts his own religion to suit his purposes.

Trivia[]

  • Cortés closely resembles the figure from Tzekel-Kan's book speaking of the Age of the Jaguar.
